MLB, 'Demon Slayer' partner for anime-style short film for Tokyo Series
Shohei Ohtani, meet Tanjiro Kamada.
MLB and the anime series "Demon Slayer" have teamed up to release an anime-style short film to celebrate the upcoming Tokyo Series, featuring Dodgers and Cubs superstars alongside Demon Slayer characters.
The short depicts Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Mookie Betts and the Dodgers facing off against Shota Imanaga, Seiya Suzuki, Dansby Swanson and the Cubs at the Tokyo Dome.
As they play, Demon Slayer's Sakonju Urokodaki -- Tanjiro's mentor in the anime, here shown as one of the commentators for the Tokyo Series -- narrates the evolution of Japanese baseball and the "passing of the torch" to the players of the present day.
The film cuts to Urokodaki teaching Tanjiro the Demon Slayer "Breathing Styles" -- then returns to the game to show Ohtani at the plate using the "Battle Breathing first form: Overpowering Home Run."
The Dodgers and Cubs will play the two-game Tokyo Series to open the 2025 MLB regular season on March 18 and 19. The teams feature five Japanese stars between them: Ohtani, Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki on the Dodgers, Imanaga and Suzuki on the Cubs.
The first movie of the "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle" trilogy comes out later this year, premiering in theaters in North America on Sept. 12.
