| • The Giants acquired infielder Osleivis Basabe from the Rays in exchange for cash considerations on Thursday. Basabe is the cousin of outfielder Luis Matos and appeared in 31 games for Tampa Bay in 2023, batting .218 with a .587 OPS across 94 plate appearances. The 24-year-old Venezuelan, who can play shortstop, second and third base, spent most of last season at Triple-A Durham, where he hit .248 with a .629 OPS and five home runs over 66 games. • San Francisco also reportedly agreed to a Minor League deal with former A’s reliever Lou Trivino, who’s expected to be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. Trivino, a 33-year-old right-hander, played under manager Bob Melvin in Oakland and recorded a 1.66 ERA over 25 appearances for the Yankees in 2022, but he hasn’t pitched in the Majors since then due to elbow and shoulder injuries. |

A year and a day after celebrating Willie Mays Day, the city of San Francisco extended the same treatment to Mays' legendary godson, Barry Bonds. Mayor Daniel Lurie issued a proclamation declaring this past Wednesday -- 2/5/25 -- as “Barry Bonds Day” in San Francisco. “I am extremely honored to receive the recognition and proclamation from Mayor Lurie and the City and County of San Francisco,” Bonds said in a statement. “Today is a celebration of not only my 22-year career but of the fans and the community who have supported me and cheered for me over the years. 2/5/25 is a wonderful reminder that I proudly wore number 25 in a city that I love and in front of so many fans whom I call family.” More >> |
