ANAHEIM -- Now that the World Series has concluded with the Brewers winning their first title Wednesday, the Angels can get to work this offseason, with awards season also looming for Major League Baseball. The Angels remain in a transition stage, as Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s purchase of the club is expected to become official in early 2027. Interim general manager John Mozeliak also said last week that he will not remain in the organization once his contract is up in December, and manager Kurt Suzuki’s contract was not renewed. So the Angels have a lot of key decisions to make regarding their front office and coaching staff, but they also need to get to work on improving a club that lost 100 games for the first time in franchise history. Mozeliak is still running the day-to-day operations for the club until new leadership is in place, and he is assisting in finding the new general manager or president of baseball operations, who will be in charge of hiring the new manager. The Angels have made some minor moves already, including declining right-hander Robert Stephenson’s $2.5 million option on Friday and outrighting lefty Sammy Peralta and catcher Sebastián Rivero on Thursday. They also lost infielder/outfielder Kyren Paris on waivers to the Mets on Thursday. It’ll be interesting to see how active the Angels will be in free agency and via trades until the new leadership is in place. But it’ll be a pivotal offseason for the future of the franchise. With that in mind, here's an overview of the dates to know for the upcoming awards season, including any Angels in the running for each award, and key dates for the rest of the offseason: Sunday: Gold Glove winners announced The Angels don’t have any finalists, although right-hander José Soriano, who was traded to the Blue Jays on Aug. 3, is a finalist among AL pitchers. Nov. 6: Heart & Hustle Award winner and Platinum Glove winners announced Mike Trout was named the Angels’ team winner for the MLB Players Alumni Association's Heart & Hustle Award. |
Nov. 9: BBWAA Jackie Robinson Rookies of the Year announced Right-hander Walbert Ureña will likely receive some down-ballot votes, as Detroit infielder Kevin McGonigle and Cleveland left-hander Parker Messick are considered to be the top contenders for the award. But a top-five finish isn’t out of the question for Ureña, who posted a 2.97 ERA with 142 strikeouts in 148 1/3 innings. Nov. 10: BBWAA Managers of the Year announced Suzuki lasted one year as manager. Red Sox manager Chad Tracy and Rays skipper Kevin Cash are considered the favorites for the award. Nov. 11: BBWAA Cy Young Awards and Relievers of the Year announced; MLB Awards (includes the Hank Aaron Award winners, the Comeback Players of the Year, the Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman Relievers of the Year, the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter, the All-MLB First and Second Teams and the MLB Executive of the Year Award) Lefty Reid Detmers and Ureña could receive down-ballot votes for the AL Cy Young Award, especially Detmers after he posted a 3.36 ERA with 211 strikeouts in 185 innings. Trout also could be a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year after he played in his most games (142) since 2016. |
Nov. 12: BBWAA MVP Awards announced Shortstop Zach Neto ranked 10th among AL position players in WAR per Baseball Reference, so he could get down-ballot votes. Houston’s Yordan Alvarez is the favorite for AL MVP. Nov. 17: Silver Slugger winners announced The Angels aren’t expected to have any Silver Slugger Award winners. Key November deadlines First day after World Series (Thursday): Players became free agents and players now can be traded between clubs The Angels have five free agents: Stephenson, catcher Travis d’Arnaud, second baseman Adam Frazier and third basemen Anthony Rendon and Yoán Moncada. Tuesday (2 p.m. PT): Deadline for teams to make a qualifying offer to players; players can begin signing with any club None of the Angels’ free agents are candidates to receive a qualifying offer. Nov. 10-12: General Managers Meetings in Las Vegas Nov. 17 (1 p.m. PT): Deadline for players to accept a qualifying offer Nov. 20: Tender deadline The Angels have 11 arbitration-eligible players this offseason: Detmers, Jose Siri, Josh Lowe, Tyler Heineman, Tayler Saucedo, Neto, Grayson Rodriguez, Ben Joyce, Nolan Schanuel, Oswald Peraza and Sam Bachman. Lowe, Peraza, Siri and possibly Heineman are non-tender candidates. |

Former Angels prospect Rio Foster, who was paralyzed in a car crash in September 2025, is showing some signs of progress in his recovery, according to his mother, Iris Cleveland. She posted a positive update and photos to his GoFundMe page on Wednesday. “Rio is progressing and growing in his new body,” she wrote. “His cognitive development is improving and he is able to focus more. He’s able to communicate more effectively. However, he needs a standing frame and a Zeen to help him increase his mobility. I am grateful for all the support that has been provided.” |

NIMMALA REGISTERS 5-HIT GAME IN FALL LEAGUE |
Earlier this week, I took a look at how Angels prospects were faring in the Arizona Fall League. Arjun Nimmala, the club’s No. 1 prospect, was in the midst of a bit of a slump. But he broke out of it in a big way on Thursday, going 5-for-7 with a homer, a double and a stolen base in Mesa’s 21-5 win. “The Angels have done a really good job with me in terms of just allowing me to play the game that I know how to play,” Nimmala said. “As soon as I got there, they were like, ‘You know what, we traded for you as a player because we knew what you were capable of. We just want you to do that defensively, offensively, on the bases. Whatever you do already, just continue to do that.’” |
